Adopt A Senior This Holiday Season

For many people, the Holidays can be a lonely time. For some Seniors, they can feel lonely all the time. Now that we have COVID-19 to be concerned about, many Seniors have gone months without seeing family & loved ones unless looking thru a window pane or on a computer screen. There's a lot of people feeling lonely this December.

Even before COVID-19, I loved the idea of Adopting A Senior for the Holidays. We all hear about adopting kids & families, but not so much about Senior Citizens. The Rensselaer County Office for the Aging is looking for your help. They are currently accepting donations that they can distribute with their Meals on Wheels Program to Seniors across the County. They're looking for things such as Word Search Books, Jigsaw Puzzles & Christmas Cards to help spread some holiday cheer. In addition, they have a handful of Seniors who need just a little bit more.... requested items include clothing, blankets, cat toys, slippers & gift cards to their local stores for necessities like Milk & Eggs. The full list of requests can be found below.

If you're able to Adopt A Rensselaer County Senior this month, or even just get the kids to make a few cards to give them, it would certainly make their day. All donations can be dropped off at the Rensselaer County Government Building at 1600 7th Ave, Troy, NY 12180 - 3rd Floor.

If you'd like to find a Senior in another area, I would suggest reaching out to your local Nursing Homes or try BeASantaToASenior.com. Here, I was able to find some Seniors in Schenectady that were looking for some simple items. Most of their wish lists have been fulfilled, but these can easily be ordered on Amazon & shipped directly to the recipient.

2020 was a hard year for many of us, but if you have the means to give this year, I hope you'll consider brightening someone else's holiday.
