Florida Man Apologizes After Saying Using a Hairdryer Can Cure Coronavirus

A Florida county commissioner had to issue a public apology this week after he reportedly claimed during a public meeting that people could cure the coronavirus by using a hairdryer to blow hot air up your nose.

Okeechobee County Commissioner Bryant Culpepper was talking about his past experience as a paramedic when he touted the miracle 'cure' as something he saw "one of the foremost doctors who has studied the coronavirus" on cable TV.

“This sounds really goofy — and it did to me too — but it works,” he said during a meeting of the commission. “The answer was you use a blow dryer. You hold a blow dryer up to your face and you inhale with your nose and it kills all the viruses in your nose."

"Sometimes the cures for some of these diseases are very simple," he added.

However, Culpepper's claims did not go over well with the rest of the commission as his claim was met with mostly silence, with someone saying "OK." Another member of the commission warned against spreading "misinformation" about the virus.

The idea that a hairdryer could 'cure' the coronavirus has been widely debunked by doctors and health experts online, who say there is no evidence that any virus can be cured by blowing hot air up one's nose. Health experts say the idea touted by Culpepper isn't just false, it's potentially dangerous.

Facing backlash for his comments, Culpepper offered an apology on his Facebook page, saying he was sorry for the angry exchanges he had with critics online.

"I am Heartfully Sorry for comments I made on Social Media. I was only trying to give comfort to those in Okeechobee who have no insurance to treat there families," Culpepper wrote on Facebook. "I should have ignored the comments that I perceived as hateful and the embarrassment I caused to my Fellow Commissioners and our Administrator And her staff."

"I will not offer anymore suggestions unless they are tried and proven," he added.
