Watch Empire State Building Light Up Along With Billy Joel's 'Miami 2017'

The city seems to be empty, but the lights haven't gone out yet.

Billy Joel delivered a powerful rendition of "Miami 2017 (Seen the Light Go Out on Broadway)" Monday night with accompaniment from the Empire State Building.

Joel's performance was the grand finale of the Robin Hood: Rise Up New York! virtual telethon, a benefit for New York's premiere poverty-fighting organization, which is busy addressing the dire situations of over 2 million New Yorkers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The telethon raise over $115 million for COVID relief by the time Joel took the reigns. Introduced by Governor Andrew Cuomo, Joel's performance was beamed onto the video sign boards in Times Square as the lights on the city's most iconic building danced to the tune.

After completing the song, Joel signed off with some distinctly New York advice: "Stay strong New York. Please, wear a mask, and that way you won't catch any s--t from anybody."
