Keith Urban Brings 'Superman' To Life In New Video

Keith Urban is giving fans another glimpse at what's to come on his upcoming album, The Speed Of Now Part 1 with the release of his new song, "Superman."

The upbeat tune finds Urban looking back on a relationship, thinking of better times. In a press release he explains how the song was written metaphorically, but with a specific time and place in mind. "I like when listeners can put heir own story, their own faces and their own characters into the song," he says, adding, "And this one to me, is definitely one of those songs."

"When I was with you, baby, I was Superman/ Yeah, we were sky high, there was nothing better/ When I was with you, grabbin’ that live wire/ Where we were Johnny and June in a ring of fire/ Now you’re caught up in my head like a melody/ Of the sweetest summer song that we used to sing/ Ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh/ When I was with you," Urban sings in the chorus.

In a recent interview, Urban revealed that "Superman" was written at a writing retreat in Nashville with an eclectic mix of writers. "I particularly wanted to put together people I’d written with, but hadn’t written with together," he explains. "There’s this three-man collective from Los Angeles called Captain Cuts that I wrote a song with on the Graffiti U album, and they bring this kind of frat-house, loose, go-at-anything vibe it’s really exciting to be around. And Craig Wiseman, a Nashville writer who I really, really love, comes at things from a different vibe again. I put Captain Cuts, Craig Wiseman and myself in a room, and ‘Superman’ was the result of that first-day collaboration."

Along with the new song, Urban also shared the "Superman" music video which features him as a hand-drawn, animated, flipbook character. The creative video can be seen below.

The Speed of Now Part 1, is due out on September 18 2020. In addition to "Superman" the project will also feature "Polaroid" and Urban’s latest single, "God Whispered Your Name."
