Chris Stapleton On Black Lives Matter Movement: 'Time For Me To Listen'

Chris Stapleton made his stance on the Black Lives Matter movement clear, stating he "absolutely" believes that Black lives matter. In a recent interview with CBS This Morning, the singer told host Anthony Mason, "There's a very broad awakening that's come about. It's time for me to listen. It's time for other folks to listen."

"You know, I thought we were living in a different country," Stapleton continued. "And that's 100% real. The country that I thought we were living in was a myth."

The "Tennessee Whiskey" singer added that overall society has "a lot of work to do." "And if you don't think that, I think you're not looking."

When asked if he supports the Black Lives Matter movement, Stapleton responded without hesitation, "Do I think Black lives matter? Absolutely. I don't know how you can think they don't."

In the interview, Stapleton went on to reveal that a song on his forthcoming album called "Watch You Burn" takes a look at another sad moment in our country's history— the 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas that took the lives of 59 people.

"Only a coward would pick up a gun to shoot up a crowd trying to have fun," Stapleton sings on the moving track, which he describes as "therapeutic."

"It's a powerful number to me that conveys the sentiment, hey let's cut the evil sh** out," he said of the track. "It's a plea in some ways."

Stapleton released the title track of his album "Starting Over" on August 27. The project, produced by longtime collaborator Dave Cobb, is due out on November 13. A full track listing can be seen here.
