The Capital Region is preparing for its first major snowstorm of the season as a Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service. The warning is in effect from 7 a.m. today until 1 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, December 3). The affected areas include Southern Fulton, Northern Saratoga, Western Schenectady, Eastern Schenectady, Southern Saratoga, Western Albany, Eastern Albany, Western Rensselaer, Eastern Rensselaer, Western Greene, Eastern Greene, Western Ulster, Northern Fulton, Southeast Warren, and Southern Washington.

According to News10, the region is expected to receive between 6 and 9 inches of snow, with some areas in the southern Green Mountains of Vermont potentially seeing up to 12 inches. The snow is predicted to be moderate to heavy, impacting both the morning and evening commutes. Snowfall rates may reach up to 1 inch per hour in certain areas, making travel conditions hazardous.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution as roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick and dangerous. The weather service suggests keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water. Travelers should also check flight statuses before heading to the airport and stay updated with the latest alerts at weather.gov.

To ensure safety, the weather service recommends sharing travel plans with family or friends, preparing vehicles with winter supplies, and staying calm if stranded. Drivers should be cautious of snow plows and check road conditions before traveling.
