Anyone who knows me, knows I love my dog. I got pretty lucky when I adopted my Border Collie/Black Lab mix named Gunnar from Homeward Bound Dog Rescue back in 2013. When I decided I was ready to own a dog, I knew there was only one way for me to go... adoption.

Now, there are several reasons for this. The first being - there are so many dogs that need a good home! Shelters are full of dogs (and cats, and other animals!) so why wouldn't I give a dog a second chance at a wonderful life? Second - these dogs are already up to date on all of their shots, they've already been seen by  a vet, & they are already neutered or spayed. Well worth any adoption price, and then some! Lastly, I strongly believe that adopted pets "just know". They know that you've given them a second chance, and therefore have a stronger bond and even more unconditional love for you.

When I adopted Gunnar, he was 4 months old. I immediately fell in love with his paws the second I saw his photo! And lucky for me, I fell in love all over again the second I met him at the adoption clinic a few days later.

Gunnar & I go on lots of adventures together. I get to bring him to some work events, we spend a lot of time on the water in the summer, love hiking & more! While Gunnar may think I saved him... the truth is, he really saved me.

Today is National Puppy Day, a day to celebrate Puppies & promote adoption. If you're considering a pet, please consider adoption. There are many animal shelters in the area that can match you with the perfect dog... be it size, age or breed! Who knows... you too could be saved by your new pup just like I was.
